The Foundation

[Foundation Secretariat]

Founded in 1986 as the Fundación Hernando de Larramendi by Ignacio Hernando de Larramendi, at his death in 2001 the Board of Patrons, by unanimous decision, changed its name to its present name, the Ignacio Larramendi Foundation.

That same year his widow, Lourdes Martínez Gutiérrez, took over as President to continue the work started by her husband.

Ignacio Hernando de Larramendi bestowed on the Foundation principles which, true to his own spirit, keep it financially independent and non-partisan, together with objectives in keeping with his long-held religious convictions and cultural and patronage concerns, particularly as they relate to the dissemination of thinking originating in Spain, Spanish America, Portugal, and Brazil.

Coupled with his management skills, these concerns led him to undertake initiatives aimed at spreading the thinking, science, prose, and poetry emanating from Spain, Spanish America, Portugal, and Brazil and at studying the historical roots underpinning these great cultural movements.

This is the direction he mapped out for the Foundation, and this is the work to which we are still dedicated day by day.
