Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo was born in Santander in 1856 and died in the same city in 1912. Child prodigy, wrote some of his most important works in full youth and, although he died soon, he left a vast and original work that we offer entirely and in which he coined the term "polymath" as we use it in the Polymath Virtual Library. Scholar, philologist, historian, translator and poet, he himself was a true polymath.
