Heritage Hubs, European Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards, 2021 May

The European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards were launched by the European Commission in 2002 and have been run in partnership with Europa Nostra ever since. The Awards are supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.

The project

Heritage Hubs is a two-year project related to the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. The project’s purpose was to support and make possible transnational learning from and about cultural heritage, and to allow children and young people to define and voice what they regard as important cultural heritage.

The project is coordinated by the Association of Cultural Heritage Education in Finland in partnership with La Fundación Fundación San Millán de la Cogolla in Spain, the Centre for Urban Development in Serbia, and VITECO E-learning solutions in Italy. It is aimed at children, young people, teachers as well as other education and heritage professionals.

The Ignacio Larramendi Foundation (part of the Spanish team led by the San Millán de la Cogolla Foundation) created the Virtual Heritage Hubs Library with technical assistance from DIGIBÍS. The objective is for the project’s contents to become part of large European repositories, such as HISPANA and Europeana, to increase the project’s visibility. The virtual library preserves and disseminates the contribution of European culture and thought to universal culture, with special focus on teaching children and young people about the cultural traditions of their countries and communities.
