The Ignacio Larramendi Foundation is proud to place the Virtual Archives of the Montiano Family at the disposal of researchers and the public in general.

Digitization of this archive was one of the many initiatives in this area promoted by Ignacio Hernando de Larramendi y Montiano, who created the MAPFRE System and established a series of foundations.

The archive is composed of a total of 281 documents and 4,415 images ranging in time from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries.

Manuel Montiano, Royal Governor of La Florida

Manuel de Montiano y Luyando (1685-1762) was a Spanish General and colonial administrator who served as Royal Governor of La Florida and Royal Governor of Panama. He defended Florida from an attack by British forces in 1740 and launched his own unsuccessful Invasion of Georgia during the War of Jenkins' Ear. See Files in this archive

Agustín de Montiano y Luyando (1697-1794)

Agustín Montiano, founder of the Real Academia de la Historia

Deserves special attention, because of the objectives of this Foundation about maintenance and dissemination of Spanish heritage, Agustín de Montiano y Luyando (1697-1794).

He was a brother of Manuel de Montiano. He was a member of the Royal Spanish Academy and was also a noted historian; he founded the Real Academia de la Historia and became its first director in 1738.
