FHL Virtual Libraries

Cubierta del libro The Ignacio Larramendi Foundation has implemented the DIGIBIB Digital Library Management System, created and developed by the digital production company Digibís.

This system is currently the most advanced system of its kind in Spain and one of the most advanced anywhere in the world in its use of protocols and conventions aimed at facilitating information exchange, harvesting by repositories everywhere, including Europeana and Hispana, and visibility on the Web.

Cataloguing of digital resources in the FHL Virtual Libraries

On accessing any of the works in the FHL Virtual Libraries it should be kept in mind that what is being accessed is a digital version of the work and hence that the digital resource in question has been catalogued. This is one of the main features of virtual libraries.

A digital resource, or digital object, as defined here, is the file produced by digitizing the hard copy of a work (for instance, on paper or parchment) using a scanner in one of a variety of formats (e.g., PDF, ePUB, MOBI).

Cataloguing of digital resources involves expanding cataloguing standards to include not only those needed for cataloguing the original physical copies of works but also new standards suitable for cataloguing digital objects today.
